the small details

INSPIRED by:

as much as i want to travel and roam, anywhere and everywhere, i was thinking today that i also want to cultivate my curiosity so as to be satisfied and perfectly contented roaming what may seem even the most boring of locales. God puts incredible things in odd places, and if i am always running, flitting from place to place, goal to goal, i will never be satisfied with or even notice that which is right in front of my nose. this insight reminded me of the movie "amazing grace". at one point in the movie, william wilberforce is exhausted from his campaign and is spending time alone on his estate, roaming the land with his bible, talking to God, and exploring nature. he marvels to his butler that with all the bright future (by the world's standards, a great political career) stretching out in front of him, all he wished for was free time to read and discover spider's webs. he wondered if he was going a bit loopy with the rush of fresh air. on the contrary, he was merely taking time to experience the joy God had packed into every little corner of creation.

i'm not what one could call an "outdoors-woman", not by a long shot, but i am changing. it sure does make you wonder about all the people out there who avoid the outdoors like the plague, and grieve the weather no matter where they are.
