bleak

it's been all rainy and dim today. not that i mind. i want to curl up in it- wrap myself in melancholy. but the closet romantic in me perseveres. above, i have compiled a few gray-day outfits i love.

a partial blur of what i wore today. trusty gladiators, old navy skinnies (cuffed), a giant thrifted gray tee, belted w/ my vintage levi's leather belt, worn with my vintage thrifted leather bomber jacket. more/better photos coming soon.

bootlust

all these beauties are from topshop. i'm searching to expand my shoes, but i just can't bring myself to pay more than $20 for something i've never tried on, so they'll just have to wait. i think i might be going to chicago over thanksgiving, so i'll set my sights on shopping there.

i went to spanish church today, and now i must write a ridiculously complicated report on the service (for my spanish 201 class), which i think rudely detracts from the sacredness of the service. and i have a midterm tomorrow. oh joy.

apples!

as a cultural discerner at calvin college, it is my task not only to learn how to discern pop culture from a Christ-centered perspective, but also to communicate that knowledge and pass on those skills to my fellow students. this past week i organized an apple-picking trip. even though i got started pretty late, i still had a sizeable group (20-25), and everything went great. we had a short discussion about how supporting local buisnesses effects the economy, and everyone agreed it was a great start to the year for the CD's. so i was happy.

now you all can see my embarrassing silliness...
thrifted ralph lauren red sailor sweater
old navy skinnies
thrifted white sparkle loafers

favorite outfit of the week
old navy skinnies
h&m grey stretch top
thrifted equestrian-print scarf
thrifted grey blazer
and my patent nine west pumps! i love them.

grey multi-tonal floral scarf (H&M)

i have been pretty lazy this week, as far as being ahead on my work and all. it will catch up with me, though. the weather has become crisp, and i greet it with mixed feelings. i have lots planned for this weekend, including an art exhibit downtown, apple picking, and a latino concert. have a great weekend!

outfits!!

wow. so, i just realized how behind i was on outfit posts! my apologies for the obnoxious length. but hopefully there is some inspiration to be found!

i wore this downtown one evening and got lots of nice compliments on it. vintage homemade 2-layer maxi-dress, worn with white flat sandals, and vintage shades.

this outfit i wore to the Ratatat concert on my campus. faded hi-waist denim shorts, grey tank, black cardigan, minnetonka mocs, vintage heart locket, and home-made hair-chain-meets-headband.

my first experiment with turning this chain into a headpiece.

this photo doesn't do this outfit justice, but oh well. pink-and-cream patterned top (Gap), wide-leg Old Navy jeans, Tommy Hilfiger brown-and-gold platform heels.

a lazy Sunday. white mens tee, studded headband, deconstructed black skirt, white sandals.

skirt detail

a regular day of classes. dark skinny jeans, vintage Tommy Hilfiger boatneck navy-and-white striped longsleeve, black cardigan, brown gladiators, vintage woven belt with leather accent.

outfit detail

the minnetonka mocs have been in heavy rotation!! probably the most comfortable, versatile flats i own.

...

and as for "The Hours", let's just say all the acting was impeccable (especially Julianne Moore), the approach to the struggle of being woman was unexpected and provocative, and I would definitely recommend it. i will most likely be watching it a few more times to absorb more of the details.
